What an awesome series! This fifth book I had to finish in a single sitting!As the clan continues to decimate the infected, the small remaining government forces are noticing. But they're not exactly pleased with the successes of Omega and Gamma teams.....they want to take over. Will Bruce and the clan be able to hold onto the farm and continue their way of life...free from tyranny and oppression? And will the super horde of infected from the east begin to turn their millions of eyes towards the self-sufficient clan?
An outstanding story, jam packed with action, danger, respect, and love. The devotion of the family and the clan is refreshingly wonderful and very funny! The sense of humor from the Rangers alone, is vulgar, disturbing....and hilarious! A great book that I just could not put down. Definitely recommending this series!

There aren't enough stars for this series! I spent my whole day immersed New Hope. The thing I love most? The hope in the clan, how the author doesn't forget obscure characters nor does he spend a lot of time repeating the previous book. So, in reading the series, start with the first and savor each one. I have laughed and cried, cheered and sworn right along with them! Each book is fresh and this is the freshest yet, throwing a whole new spin and maturity. I bow to the author,
I have read books that I paid a lot more for and did not enjoy half as much as I did this one. As usual (with this author) I was left wanting more.
I stumbled onto the series mainly because I enjoy reading post apocalyptic books. I was hooked from the start and at the end I wished I had the next book to read right away.
As with all of the books in this series, I read it once, then turned around and read it again, at a slower pace. I've enjoyed this series a lot and will re-read the entire series from start to finish again within the week. Looking forward to Fall of 2014.
Imho this book (as well as the entire series) are worth the cost and well worth the time to read.
I love the whole "it's mine and you can't have it approach to this series. He was ready for this and it paid off! You can't get through an apocalypse without being prepared and keep your sense of humor too & Bruce has a great sense of humor. The style of writing I enjoy the most is the kind that you become completely immersed in. When they are happy you feel happier, if they are angry, you get angry but the hardest is when they take a loss. I don't ever remember having a "book loss" hit me like the big one in this series which I am not going to disclose because I just hate when someone ruins it for me.
I car very easily recommend this series to anyone because it is not just another end of times or zombie apocalypse, this is a unique. I know you will enjoy it
The author would be disappointed if I didn't start with a few critical comments. The family repartee is so repetitive, threatening and unrealistic it detracts from the story. All of the women especially seem in a constant state of anger, willing to commit mayhem at the smallest slight. The men too often seem like emasculated enablers which they aren't. Hopefully, someone will off Buffy so we no longer have to put up with her whining entitlement or juvenile threats.
Now the good stuff. The author not only has an incredible grasp of disparate disciplines but has the ability to articulate them. Really remarkable. His gradual growth of the scale of conflict and clan from book to book is seamless, believable and entertaining. The pace, alternating between violent action and domesticity is near perfect. He has assembled a group of memorable and well defined characters who add color and credibility. While some of the humor is forced there are always some really iconic comedic gems.
So if you like a unique blend of humor, action, and memorable characters in an apocalyptic setting, strongly recommend you buy all of Mr. Watson's books. I do.
One awesome read. Spoiler alert.
This one starts with Bruce. A Bruce who's still dealing with the death of Debbie. The love of his life and mother of his three children.
Bruce has read Debbie journal and knows about her premonitions of death and how she left Stephanie and Angela as replacements for her. Both are now sexual partners for Bruce and are known as his two wives. They are companions and friends and advisors much as Debbie was.
The Clan has grown along with the farm. They now number in the thousands. The Clan has aircraft both choppers and fixed wing. Pilots already trained and those being trained. More barracks are going up as more and more people are brought in and agree to stay. Training is taking place in all areas to include electricians, plumbers, metal workers, engineers, pilots and shooters.
The farm is now called the Hope Base. There are Storage areas everywhere holding ammo, guns, bombs, missiles and supplies as well as fuel, batteries, gear and anything else anyone could think of that they need. The clan engineers are working on a Hydro electric project and a refinery is being built. There are acres of planted crops, horses, cattle, pigs and chickens. Orchards of apples and pears.
All clan members have jobs and all contribute to guarding the base and doing the work needed to keep everyone safe. If you don't pull your weight or become a problem your given a kick out the door to survive on your own. The Clan is everything and anyone not willing to do their part isn't welcome.
There are gangs out there who have killed, tortured, raped and hold people in bondage. Bruce decides that these gangs need to be killed and their hostages freed. The hostages can come with Bruce and his people or they can leave to fend for themselves. The choice will be theirs. The gang members though, will be killed. Each and every one of them. Bruce has no mercy when it comes to gangs preying on people.
While at Hope Base Bruce gets a call about a stryker headed their way.
Bruce heads out to the gate where the stryker will arrive. Inside is Adam Cole, Ranger, US Army and his wife. The two of them left Colorado where the new self appointed POTUS, military, Homeland Security and civilians are based. Col. Gene Walker who was once Bruce's Lt. and commander is also in Colorado. He's a man Bruce know well. A man Bruce has ultimate respect and trust for.
Walker is walking a fine line in Colorado. He knows Homeland security murdered the previous General and the man now in charge of the military is firmly in the camp of the new POTUS. Walker has done what he can to sow decent among those in charge but he's got to be careful so that he's not the next man to die of a "heart attack" in bed.
Cole tells Bruce that Walker got he and his wife out. He also tells him what's going on with the POTUS, Homeland Security, aides and General Givens who's head of the military. Cole tells Bruce about the murders, the rapes and the fact that the Homeland men are out of control and doing as they damned well please.
Adam advises them the POTUS elected himself as he was the last Govt. man around and how he wants Hope Base as his new base and will kill everyone here so he can take it over.
So begins another great read.
This one has Bruce, Walker, Mike, Nancy, Stephanie, Angela, Buffy, Danny, Matt, Jake, the rest of the kids, Cole and the info he brings, Jake and Matt and computers, a view of the Colorado command post, Gopher, the radio and television broadcasts, a woman named Sandy who's a scientist from the CDC, the raid on a gangs camp, forty million blues headed toward home base, a POTUS who wants Walker to come up with a plan to take Hope Base, a Walker doing his best to blow smoke up their asses while communicating with Bruce, the Clan coming together to hit the blues and Bruce and his crew doing their best to save the day and stay alive.
One awesome read. Five Stars.
